In less than a month, 'Squid Game' has become Netflix's runaway hit series, stealing the title of most-streamed show of all time from 'Bridgerton'. A global hot topic, the South Korean series follows 456 players who are deeply in debt and agree to play deadly games for the chance to win a large sum of money. The contestants are specifically chosen due to their financial situations and invited to join the game through a cryptic business card. The card is simply made with 18pt brown kraft and has three shapes printed on the front in black ink and a phone number on the back.
Introducing Relief App
With the COVID-19 pandemic causing over 22 million people to lose their jobs, many Americans find themselves cash-strapped and facing tough times like the ‘Squid Game’ contestants. With unemployment crippling many families, plummeting into debt was the only option. U.S. credit card debt has recently hit a record high of $930 billion, with many families struggling to tackle their consumer debt. Jason Saltzman, Bryan Okeke, and Ram Berrouet saw the need to help working Americans manage their debt by finding real solutions, not payday loans and more credit cards that add to the problem. Together they founded the Relief App that eliminates debt by working with creditors to reduce what people owe.
Producing a business card identical in look to the one in ‘Squid Game’ was of high priority to the campaign. With its 18pt brown kraft, Jukebox was able to produce that for Wunder.
A Cool Campaign
With the success of the ‘Squid Game’ series, Relief App, together with creative marketing agency, Wunder, created a really clever campaign using the infamous business cards. Recreating the iconic ‘Squid Game’ card, Relief placed 10,000 of them around the city centers of New York and Miami. But these cards were not an invite to those behind on their credit card payments to play a twisted game, but rather to let them know there's a better way to get back on track. Using the Relief App, they can eliminate credit card debt. The app uses AI and collective bargaining to reduce balances and help users become debt-free faster.
With such an on-brand, time-sensitive campaign, Wunder came to Jukebox to help with their printing needs. According to Stephen Flynn, Creative Director at Wunder, Jukebox provided the perfect printing solutions for this campaign. With a quick turnaround time, Wunder was able to get their hands on the cards within days and praised the print company for its exceptional job of correctly matching stock and ink from the series.
The Relief/’Squid Game’ business card will be popping up in various places throughout New York and Miami over the next few weeks. As the show grows in popularity, Relief hopes its business card campaign will make a true impact. And hopes not to crush too many dreams of those ready to risk it all for a few million dollars — but that may be for the best.
