Most of us are familiar with the most popular fonts in graphic design, but you’ll probably want to avoid using the “obvious” fonts and use something more original instead.

21. Trade Gothic
Designed by Jackson Burke in 1948, he continued to work on other weights and styles until 1960 when he was director of type development for Mergenthaler-Linotype. Trade Gothic is one of those typefaces that have been around for decades but isn’t that saturated or “over-used” at all. With 14 different styles and weights, there’s enough to choose from for your design project. It’s amazing to see how different its appearance is between the condensed and extended options.
When working on a brand identity you’ll need a font that can help you with the different “brand touchpoints”. When you’re looking for the best font for business cards, for example, you’ll notice that legibility is one of the most important factors. Not only do the alphabetical letters need to be easy and clear to read, but numerals are one of those elements of a font that often get overlooked. Some typefaces have a slight resemblance between the “1” and “7”, which is something you don’t want to happen in your telephone number on your business card, am I right? Trade Gothic is an example of a very decent, functional typeface with enough character to be distinctive.

Just a lovely typeface that brings so much to your design. As the designers from TypeType describe it themselves: “We were inspired to develop TT Globs by the idea to unite historical slabs with contemporary perceptions about fonts, their uses, and display shapes of letters. We wanted to make curves more mechanical and rather modular, which would be very much in contrast with the cozy lines from historical specimens. The main visual features of TT Globs are the long display serifs, which create a unified text image and connect all the letters, especially uppercase, into an almost uninterrupted dynamic chain.”

I wanted to create a typeface that is written, expressive, and organic on the one hand and thrown into a geometric frame on the other. In 2021, in an old specimen, I found a beautiful thick display lettering called Chrysler, which became the starting point for the project.”

As the designers from Colophon Foundry describe it themselves: “Dopple, a name born out of various iterations and translations of doubling and duality, is an exploration into the extremes of expression within a single typographic family. Moving from a Regular to a Black weight, the design becomes increasingly graphic in its transition from straight to flared lines. Although monolinear in contrast, the more neutral Regular weight has its own idiosyncratic moments — with rounded corners and asymmetrical shapes — which are expanded and extrapolated as it travels through the weight range.”

Tips on choosing fonts for designers
There it is! 50 of the best 2024 fonts for designers. Maybe some categories are less represented than you might have wanted, but hopefully, this list will give you enough fonts to work with.
It’s interesting to see how graphic design trends evolve each year and how the use of fonts grows along with these trends as well. Handwriting/script fonts, for example, are very popular at the moment. Check out our list of the best handwriting fonts to fulfill your handwritten needs.
One question we hear a lot is whether you still need to convert your fonts to outlines before exporting them for print. Although most of us got educated to always convert them to avoid any issues during the printing process, is this still necessary?
Also, keep an eye out for our 2024 Trendbook as we’ll be looking into even more trends to get you ready for next year.
Working on a design project? In case you need a spark of inspiration and want to know what’s expected to be on trend in 2024, we summed up 24 of the biggest graphic design trends for 2024 to give you an idea of what this year will (probably) look like.
